HL7 and WEDI Offer Claims Attachments Audiocast on July 7, 2009

WHAT:             Getting to Know Claims Attachments: The Fundamentals of the X12, Health Level Seven (HL7) and LOINC Standards

WHEN:             Tuesday, July 7, 2009
2:00 PM ET - 3:30 PM ET

DESCRIPTION:

Join our expert faculty for an introductory look at the claims attachments standards expected to be named under HIPAA. The fundamentals of each of the standards will be covered. You'll learn how the X12 277 and 275 work with the HL7 CDA and how the LOINC codes work to tie everything together.

The program will begin with an introduction to the X12 standards, including:

·        Explanation of how the standards work

·         Important aspects of each standard

·         How the standards relate to one another and to the HL7 Clinical Document Architecture (CDA)

·         277 Request for Additional Information

·         275 Additional Information to Support a Healthcare Claim or Encounter

The second part of the audiocast will focus on the Health Level Seven (HL7) Clinical Document Architecture (CDA) and the use of LOINC (Logical Observation Identifier Names and Codes) codes to tie it all together. CDA is the standard which contains the attachment data and is carried in the X12 275. The discussion will include:

·        An overview of the CDA for attachments

·         The current version being used (versus the version named in the NPRM for HIPAA)

·         The benefits of using the CDA versus the original HL7 version 2.x (initial proposal)

·         Important aspects of CDA

·         Use of LOINC codes for claims attachments

·         How all the standards work together

The adoption rate for this "joint" electronic standard solution for automating the claims attachments process remains low; however, those who have implemented have enjoyed not just efficiencies, but significant ROI. After attending this session, you will better understand the advantages to implementing this solution, not just because it will be mandated by the government, but because it's a wise business decision.

Pre-requisites: Participants should have a general understanding of the standards named under HIPAA and particularly how the X12 standards work. Understanding of the HL7 CDA and/or the claims attachments business process would be an advantage.

SPEAKERS:

·         Laurie Burckhardt, WEDI SNIP Transaction Code Set Co-chair; ASC X12N Work Group 2 (Claims) Co-chair, Moderator

·         Wes Rishel, Past Co-chair HL7 Attachments Work Group; VP/Distinguished Analyst, Gartner, Inc.

·         Mary Lynn Bushman, WEDI SNIP Claims Attachments Subworkgroup Co-chair; ASC X12N Work Group 9 (Claims Attachments) Co-chair

WHO SHOULD ATTEND:

·         Providers

·         Payers

·         Technology Partners

·         Anyone responsible for implementing these standards.
